CHESTERFIELD
BLUES was created in 2002 as an alternative to THE SURFTONES who had become
a large event band and no longer played clubs or restaurants. KERRY
CHESTER, GREG MORGAN and TRACY LONGSTRETH had been playing gigs for several years
together in and around the Newport Beach area as the KERRY CHESTER TRIO when
they added TANYA LUNDY a relatively unknown
blues singer from South Orange County to the lineup and CHESTERFIELD BLUES was born.
Specializing in Blues, Classic Rock, Soul, and Jazz Rock, CHESTERFIELD BLUES played Sunday afternoons at the end of the Newport Pier
for three years where they
quickly built a following of fans and friends who would show up every
week to hear the groove oriented music that made CHESTERFIELD BLUES
the perfect group to spend an afternoon with surrounded by the cool blue
Pacific Ocean.
Soon CHESTERFIELD BLUES found themselves gigging up and down the coast at
clubs and restaurants as well as casuals and events. In 2004 they landed
at the Village Inn on Balboa Island on Friday nights and played there
on Fridays for four years. In early 2008 Tanya left the band to care
for her new baby and pursue her career in the original group, WORDSMITH,
that plays frequently at venues like the Coach House in San Juan
Capistrano where they've opened for many name acts.
KERRY CHESTER (Keyboards, Key Bass & Vocals), GREG MORGAN (Guitar &
Vocals) and TRACY LONGSTRETH (Drums & Vocals) have continued on as THE
CHESTERFIELD BLUES TRIO in the nightclubs and have moved their Friday Nights to THE
FLING in Tustin. CHESTERFIELD BLUES also goes out as a four-piece with tried and
true Blues Vocalist CHRIS WHYNAUGHT joining the group as their new lead singer for
casuals, events
and concerts. Chris’ voice brings to mind the Blues, Rock and Soul
greats like Wilson Pickett, John Lee Hooker and Joe Cocker with his
authentic unmistakable growl and power. Chris also plays the saxophone
which adds another dimension to the unique sound of CHESTERFIELD BLUES.
Combined with Kerry’s Hammond organ, Greg’s chorused guitar and Tracy’s
Rock/Jazz style of drumming, CHESTERFIELD BLUES has a personality all of
it’s own and is a favorite of many of the pro musicians in the area who
can be seen dropping by to sit in with the band when they have a night off.
CHESTERFIELD BLUES
with their high quality of musicianship and extensive songlist is the perfect band
with Classic Rock, Blues, Soul, and Jazz
Rock for any occasion night or day.
